AML Foods Breaks Ground on $10.3 Million Distribution Center in Freeport – New facility to create jobs and strengthen national supply chain
January 22nd, 2026
Freeport, Grand Bahama – AML Foods Limited today officially broke ground on a new $10.3 million Distribution Center which will be located on Queen’s Highway in Freeport, on the site that previously housed a Solomon’s grocery store, reinforcing the company’s long-term commitment to Grand Bahama and the continued growth of its operations throughout The Bahamas.
The new facility will serve as a centralized distribution hub supporting AML Foods’ retail operations in Grand Bahama, New Providence, Exuma, and Eleuthera. Once completed, the Distribution Center will improve supply chain efficiency, enhance product availability, and support the company’s expanding network of stores.
The project represents a significant capital investment in Grand Bahama and is expected to create approximately 20 new permanent jobs once operational, in addition to employment opportunities generated during the construction phase.
“This Distribution Center is a strategic investment in both our business and in Grand Bahama,” said Gavin Watchorn, CEO & President, AML Foods Limited. “By investing $10.3 million in this facility, we are strengthening our ability to serve customers nationwide while creating new jobs and supporting economic activity on the island. As with every AML project, we will be using local contractors wherever possible, ensuring that the economic benefits of this development circulates within the community.”
The groundbreaking ceremony included remarks from The Honorable I Chester Cooper, Deputy Prime Minister, The Honorable Ginger Moxey, Minister for Grand Bahama, and Ian Rolle, President of the Grand Bahama Port Authority.
AML Foods’ decision to construct the Distribution Center in Freeport builds on its existing footprint on the island, which includes two Solomon’s grocery stores, Cost Right Wholesale Club, a Domino’s Pizza location, and their Freeport Corporate Office. Collectively, these operations employ approximately 300 associates on Grand Bahama island.
Watchorn further explained: “This Queen’s Highway site is deeply woven into AML’s history. For some 13 years, it served the Freeport community as a Solomon’s grocery store, providing access to essential goods and offering meaningful employment to many Grand Bahamians over the years. Many careers were built here. Many families were supported here. This site has long been a place of service, stability, and community connection and today, we take the next step in that legacy.”
Construction of the Distribution Center is expected to be completed by Q3, with the facility becoming fully operational shortly thereafter.
